Paralysis by Analysis

This is definitely something I personally have suffered from in the past and I see it affecting more and more people daily.

If you don’t know what this is, well it’s basically consuming too much information (mainly hype) and going into brain overload. When this happens, all trains of thought get affected and it can blur your goals and put you completely off track. In fact it can make it almost impossible to get any real work done.

I see this happening a lot on the internet, mainly due to the excessive info, hype and brag stories being posted on forums almost daily. It also seems common for people to post their daily incomes, and all kinds of crazy numbers are being posted from $1000/day to $1,000,000 / day. On top of this, the income earners are also making claims as to how easy it was to earn their modest amounts. The other source of confusion is created by the millions of hype products now available on the net, each one claiming you can earn $10,000 per month in your sleep, all you need to do is remember to wake up and turn on your computer to see how many sales you made while you were sleeping.

For the most part, this type of information doesn’t actually serve any positive purpose, and for those starting out on the internet it can be quite negative. Let’s take for example, Joe Bloggs, who has just created his first website, and hopes to make $1/day (initial goal) from Adsense. Rather than follow this through, Joe Bloggs gets caught up reading various discussion boards, and then decides that it is better to create 150 sites each making $5, or to scrap his first idea and spend big on Adwords to promote some affiliate program or to churn out scraper sites etc etc the list goes on. In the end Joe gets overloaded with ideas and doesn’t execute any idea properly. After all that Joe doesn’t really end up taking any proper action and then decides that it’s impossible to make money online.

Its not to say that all the hype and success stories are BS, but the point is that one should set out their own business plan (based on a solid business model) and follow it through. Just stick to one good idea and really go for it. It will require action, hard work and lots of hours. Spend one month working hard on just a single goal and ignore the success stories, hyped up products etc and its almost guaranteed that you will achieve and beat your goals.
